Longitude and latitude lines

Today in class we learned about longitude and latitude lines. But as we were learning we turned the lights for the first time in class today. But latitude lines are lines that are parallels and never touch each other ever. Longitude lines are meridians that never touch each other either. Longitude and Latitude lines are the main reason why we can use maps and GPS systems. They are the main reason because when you look at a map and you see yourself on the map it tracks your location. So when you put in the location you are going to its picks up the longitude and latitude lines of that location and it picks up where you are going. So that is what longitude and latitude lines do in tracking and finding places.

Industries

Today in class we talked more about where things are on a map like siting and situation. But we also talked about today where the United States gets their stuff made in the world. One of the examples was where we get our phones from even though we have all the stuff here. The United States had all of the parts to make the things but we send it to China. They send it to China because they can get it made and shipped back for a cheaper price. Another example that they had was where our notebooks are from and made. So he asked the class where their stuff was from. And most of the class said that their stuff was made from Vietnam. But some people said that their stuff was made from the United States because some places can do it for cheep. Thats what we learned today in class.

Geographers and telling where things are on a map

Geographers tell what a certain place looks like or where it is. But most importantly they have to tell you where the place is on a map or just in general. One way a geographer tells you where something is they can show you a map and point to it. Or they could even use the longitude and latitude lines that are on a map to show a specific place. But they can also tell you where something is compared to some place else in the world wether it be in the same country or even across the entire world. They can do that by connecting longitude lines from one place another and that place can be really similar to it because of the wether that they may with certain seasons. That is how a geographer can tell you where something is.

First Test Review

Today in class we went over the first test that we had. We went over the answers and reviewed. We also, talked about how the exam schedule that we will have when we have the exams in January coming up. As we were going over the stuff in class we learned that would should keep the test and that some of the questions on the test will be on the exam in January. But one of the things that i learned were some test taking stratigies. One of the test taking tips he gave us was to cover the answers and say the answer in our head so if the answer is on the paper it is most likely correct instead of just seeing all the answers in one area and confusing yourself. So the next time I take a test in this class I will make sure to study a bit harder and use the test taking stratigies so I get a better grade on the next test.

Mercator vs Peter Maps

Today in class we were supposed to research the difference between Peters projection maps and the traditional Mercator Map. The Mercator Map was made in 1569. The Mercator map was the standard map projection for navigation. The Peters Projection World Map is one of the most stimulating and controversial images of the world. It is a rectangular map projection that maps all a reas such that they have the correct sizes relative to each other.  The map is not used for navigation as much as the Mercator Map is because the Mercator Map is used for more roads and streets. The Galls Peter Projection Map is more used for a study to see how far certain things are away from each other. Even though they are both maps they are still used for different things so not every map is used for the same things.

Maps

In class today we learned about maps also, known as the science of cartography. Maps are a way to look and see the place that you are going to go to. But they also, can show you around a building or park so you know where to go. Maps are important in todays world because if you did not have a map to use you would not know where to go. That would also cause a bring a big problem because people need to be places at a certain time and if they do not know where to go they would not be able to do that. Another thing that maps can be is a blueprint. A blueprint tells you how to make stuff and kind of what a place will look like over time.

first test blog

Today in class we took a test about "The Message to Garcia" by Elbert Hubbard, what happened in Greece in 508 BC, and the trial of Socrates and what he taught. I feel like I did pretty good. I think this because I studied for it and it interested me. One of the parts i think i got wrong was when it asked what words have the same orgin as "polis". I did not know that so I put two words that had the same soundings as it. For the extra credit point it asked in 2015 what is the tallest mountain in Asia. I think i got that right but I am not certain. Finally, I think I did really well on the essay questions because i took my time through them and tried to think through what I was going to write before I wrote it.

Ancient Greece / Socrates

Today in class we learned about what happened in 508 BC when Socrates was teaching people how to think through things. He stood up to anyone that said what he was teaching was bad or was not supposed to be taught. He ended up going to court for what he was teaching with two charges that could put him to death. When the court asked him if he actually did what they accused him of he said yes I did do that and he thought that he should be rewarded for what he was doing with a free dinner every night. That was what mainly happened in 508 BC in ancient Greece.

Friday blog

Today in class we learned more about Elbert Hubbard and his essay that went viral. His essay was a main point that he wanted to get across to everyone. His essay meant a lot to everyone and a saying that everyone knew about "send a message to Garcia". Also, his three page essay was turned into a book and a pamphlet that sold over 40 million copies which at the time was more than half of the United stated at the time. Another thing that happened was that they made two movies about him and his essay that he wrote. So he meant a lot back then when he wrote that essay.

A Message to Garcia blog

In the essay " A Message to Garcia " there was a lot of points that the writer was making as the passage went on. The beginning of the essay started off with this guy that had to find and send a message to Garcia. But the twist about that was that he did not know where she was beside that she was in Cuba. He went instantly to find her which was a main part in the essay. When he went to go find her no one told him where she was in Cuba but instead of wasting time and waiting to go look for her he went right away. That can be like a problem that most people have in high school and that is waiting to do things. For example when you come home and you have homework instead of doing it right away you go and play video games for two hours and then you are stuck staying up late doing it because you waited to long to do it. That was a main part in the essay that can relate to a problem some high schoolers will have.

Wednesday blog

The first day of high school was good but it is going to be more challenging as the school year goes on and baseball starts for me. It is going to be harder because we will have practice or a game and will get home late and still have to do our homework and study for tests or upcoming tests. Also, it is going to be hard because in middle school you did not really have to study for anything and still get by with A's and B's. In high school you will have to study for hours every night to make sure you do well on the work. Another thing people might find difficult in high school is making new friends. Some people do not like to be social and will have a hard time making friends and doing work with other people in class. Not everyone will have those problems but some people will.

first blog

The first day of school I had to wake up early and get ready which I did not like. When I got to school it was not that bad. After my third class I got really tired and the day started to slow down. By the time I got to my last two classes I woke up a little bit. The algebra one class was fun because we did some fun games and it was getting close to the end of the day. So the first day was not all that bad. In class I like my seat. I like it because I can see and hear everything that is going on in the room.  Also, I like my seat because the people around me seem like nice and hardworking people. Another reason why is because I am not to far from the bored and the teacher so I can not get distracted to easily and I would stay focused.
